Never Too Old: Picture Books Rediscovered
National Design Centre
An exhibition designed and curated by Illo Picto, a collective compromising illustrators Ben Lai, Paula Pang and myself. The three of us have always felt that picture books don’t get the recognition they deserve as a powerful form of literature combining words and images for adults and children alike.
We curated a showcase of books from different time periods by creators from all around the world, covering unexpected topics like death, environmentalism and war to show just what picture books can do. Following which, we identified representative phrases from the stories before reinterpreting them through our own illustrations, showing just how rich the texts are in expression and meaning.
An activity area encouraged visitors to create stories but cutting simple shapes, showing how you’re really never too old!
