Based on Sigmund Freud’s essay on the Uncanny, this brief dealt with the titular concept and the field of psychoanalysis. The Uncanny was defined to be what was once familiar but has now become unfamiliar, thereby repelling and attracting us simultaneously.
This series of rather uncanny furniture was inspired by the Grizzly Chair, created by Californian hunter, Seth Kinter, as a present to then U.S. President Andrew Johnson. He made it from two grizzlies, combined to form a rather disconcerting six-legged object. Having captured the concept rather well, I went on to design a whole series that would complement the above and hopefully fit right in your living room. Only first sight that is.
